About Your City Government

The City of Alturas, incorporated September 16th, 1901, is a general law city formed under state legislative statutes and governed by a body of laws in the State Constitution. The Alturas City Council consists of five council members elected "at large" for staggered four-year terms. Council members must be residents of the city and registered voters at the time nomination papers are taken out.

Council Meetings

Meetings of the Alturas City Council are held the third Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m.  The meetings take place in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 200 North Street, Alturas, CA.  City Council meetings, except for closed sessions as allowed by law, are open to the public.

Council Agendas

The City Council Agenda is prepared by the City Clerk prior to each Council Meeting, and sets forth the order and subject matter to be considered at the meeting.  City Council Agendas are available at the City Clerk's Office or may be viewed on this website.
